based services that will not only meet the needs of TLC's clients, but
also those identified as necessary by the family and community.
These services include:
- Educational and psychological assessments
- Intensive applied behavioral analysis therapy
- Professional collaboration
- Parent training
- Seminars and conferences
- Program consultation and assessments
- Functional behavioral assessments
Behavioral Therapy TLC
is able to provide intensive applied behavior analysis services to
children who live within a radius of an hour from New Rochelle, New
York. These services include up to 40 hours a week of one-to-one
therapy provided by therapists employed by TLC. A Case Supervisor will
write and provide educational and behavioral programs specifically
tailored to meet the individual needs of the child. The supervisor will
work with the child on a regular basis and conduct team meetings where
program changes and updates will occur. Families utilizing these
services will receive ongoing training regarding how to manage
behaviors, generalization of skills, and other individual areas of
concern. Testing and Assessments
TLC employs a New York State certified school psychologist who is
available to conduct psychological testing for clients. TLC is also
able to provide interdisciplinary evaluations which include educational
and psychological batteries of tests. All tests are conducted by
individuals trained in applied behavior analysis and no testing is
conducted until a rapport is established between the test administer
and the child. It is also possible to conduct testing in the home
environment. We have found that a solid rapport, familiar environment,
and an examiner with extensive applied behavior analysis training
enables us to gather the most accurate scores that truly reflect a
child's abilities. Upon completion, all results and recommendations are
reviewed with the family and together with the family's input, goals
are written to address the areas of need identified based upon the test
results. » Back To Top
Functional Behavioral Assessment
TLC is able to provide functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and
behavioral intervention plans (BIP) to our clients. Evaluations are
conducted and reports are prepared that identify the function of a
behavior. Once the function has been identified a BIP is written that
identifies how behaviors are to be addressed across environments. Once
the FBA and BIP are complete all relevant individuals are provided with
training on how to implement the plan. Follow up evaluations are
conducted to ensure that the intervention is having the desired effect
and that the intervention is being implemented consistently across
individuals and environments. » Back To Top
Parent Training
It is important to include parents as active participants in their
child’s program. Parental involvement is crucial for a number of
reasons including providing consistent implementation of behavioral
strategies, generalization of skills, participating in goal and program
selection, and conveying crucial information regarding their child's
strengths and areas of need. In order to provide parents with the
skills and knowledge required to be an active team member, TLC conducts
parent skills assessments and follow-up training sessions. A detailed
training protocol is created and implemented throughout the course of
the child's treatment. These parent training sessions are conducted by
the Case Supervisor and are scheduled on an ongoing basis. Over time
the parents will develop necessary skills and become proficient with
techniques that enable them to incorporate behavioral principles and
targeted skills into their daily lives. As consistency across
environments is established, generalization of appropriate skills and
behaviors are promoted. Given that each family's needs are dynamic and
unique, an individual training protocol is designed with each family. The components of TLC's parent training protocol include:
- Behavioral Management
- Managing unstructured time
- Generalization of skills taught
- Acquisition of skills in the natural environment
- Natural environmental teaching
- Contriving language opportunities
- Capturing language
- Integration with siblings
- Acquisition of play skills
- Collaboration with Related Services Providers
In order to provide children with a cohesive program and to maximize
the effectiveness of the related services TLC clients receive, TLC
actively collaborates with these providers. This collaboration process
includes meeting and working with, modeling stratigies and learning new
techniques. The most effective techniques and strategies are then
incorporated into the child's program in an effort to expedite the
acquisition of new skills. This process provides the child with
consistent expectations and maximizes the effectiveness of the therapy
the child receives. Seminars and Conferences
TLC provides and presents at a number of seminars and conferences in
the tri-State area. These conferences are conducted for the purpose of
training and providing support to families, professionals, community
agencies, and state and governmental agencies. Recent topics have
included functional programming, principles of applied behavior
analysis, curriculum modification, quality control measures, behavior
management, social skills, educational programming, play skills, family
centered programming and parent integration. » Back To Top |
